Sunny Sydney Harbour served as the perfect backdrop for the first-ever “Cambalache: One Day in Argentina” trade-only wine-tasting event on Monday, 16 November 2015 at Pier One Restaurant in Walsh Bay.
Professionals across Australia’s food and drinks industry enjoyed an afternoon featuring Argentinean culture, music, food, and, of course, wine. More than 400 wines were on offer for tasting – both products already available in Australia and those from Argentina looking for a distributor here.
Amid authentic empanadas, a delicious traditional Argentinean barbecue lunch asado, and decadent desserts dripping with dulce de leche, industry insiders sipped and savoured some of the best varietals this South American country has to offer, from effervescent sparkling whites, bright Sauvignon Blancs and aromatic Torrontés to rich Bonardas and world-renowned Malbecs.
Presented by Wines of Argentina and the Consulate General of the Argentine Republic in Sydney, the event highlighted not only Argentina’s abundant wine-producing regions but also the country’s vibrant spirit and culture and the amazing people, families, and stories behind these distinctive wines. So much more than a typical wine tasting, Cambalache aims to celebrate, build on, and strengthen the relationship between Argentina and Australia and promote opportunities for Argentinean wines in this country.
